Paul Kraus is a mesothelioma survivor and author of surviving mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer, usually associated with exposure to asbestos above. In developing this disease, malignant (cancer) cells of the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the internal organs of the body. Its most common site of the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest), may also occur in the peritoneum (the liningthe abdominal cavity) or the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart).
Most people who develop asbestos mesothelioma have worked on jobs where inhalation of asbestos particles, or have worked on are exposed to asbestos dust and fibers in other ways, such as washing clothes of a member family or home renovation with asbestos-cement products.
Symptoms of mesothelioma may not appear until 30 to 50 years after exposure toAsbestos.
Characterized by shortness of breath and chest pain by an accumulation of fluid in the pleural space, this is often symptoms of pleural mesothelioma.
Symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma are weight loss and cachexia, pain, bloating and causes of ascites (fluid accumulation in the abdominal cavity). Other symptoms of peritoneal mesothelioma can intestinal obstruction, blood clotting disorders, anemia and fever.
Ifthe cancer has spread through the mesothelium to other parts of the body, symptoms may include pain, difficulty swallowing, or swelling of the neck or face. Note, however, that these symptoms are less severe conditions, mesothelioma or other. The granting of a mesothelioma diagnosis is often difficult because the symptoms are similar conditions to those of a number of other, less serious.
