The TNM system
The TNM system of cancer classified in three ways: 1} tumor size, 2}, from its source if the tumor has spread to nearby lymph nodes, and 3}, ifthe cancer has metastasized. This system can be used to stage the pleural and peritoneal mesothelioma. T stands for tumor size, N stands for the extent of lymph node involvement, and M to the extent of distant metastases. This is the most common staging system for most types of cancer used.
The Butchart system
The Butchart system categorizes the different stages of cancer primarily on the size and spread of the primary tumor is based. This system has four levels. In Phase 4 of theButchart system has mesothelioma metastasis, the spread through the bloodstream to organs and tissues that are remote from the primary tumor.
The Brigham System
The Brigham system is a relatively new staging of mesothelioma. This classification system in mesothelioma stages, if the base tumors can be removed with surgery {} resectability of the tumor, and whether the cancer has spread to nearby lymph nodes. The Brigham system includes four stages. InPhase 4 of the Brigham Mesothelioma is unusable because of the size of the tumor and had penetrated vital organs. In addition, mesothelioma metastasis to other sites, so cancer is more than likely, even if recurrent primary tumors removed.
As step 4 is mesothelioma treated?
In patients with stage 4 have few treatment options. With Stage 4 mesothelioma, the prognosis is generally very poor through the spread of cancer at multiple sites. In addition,Primary tumors are often removed penetrated deep into tissues and organs. The overall health of patients with stage 4 was also reduced to a level where the patient is too weak to withstand the physical stress of surgery.
Level 4 treatments are therefore palliative care that are used to relieve the symptoms of the disease are limited. These may include procedures such as thoracentesis or paracentesis, where the liquid is removed from the lungs or abdomen town to relieve painand pressure on internal organs. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy can also be used to shrink tumors provide symptomatic relief. Since these treatments often have severe side effects, patients should carefully consider whether you want to stand for such treatment at this late stage.
